Teaching & Learning

Learning Support.

Every student learns differently. We work with each one to find the strategies, support, and self-advocacy skills that help them thrive.

Our approach

All students learn differently.

We work with every student to identify strategies for their success and wellbeing. Students with diagnosed learning differences may need extra support and accommodations to have a fair chance at academic success.

Our goals are for students to advocate for themselves, understand their own learning strengths and challenges, and be prepared for college.

Questions

Learning support FAQs.

Have a question we don’t answer here? Contact the Admissions team.

01

Is there a Learning Support specialist on staff?

Yes. Our Director of Learning Support Services is available year-round to all students and families, whether a student has a diagnosed learning difference or simply wants extra help or more challenge.

02

How do students access support?

Students can refer themselves, or be referred by a teacher or parent. The Director does an initial screening and recommends next steps, from peer tutoring or teacher help to, in some cases, a learning evaluation.

03

Are accommodations available?

Yes, based on a professional evaluation and discussion with the student and family. Typical accommodations include extended time, preferential seating, technology use, and testing outside the classroom. We are not equipped to modify curriculum for significant learning differences.

04

What about standardized tests?

Accommodations for the SAT, AP exams, or ACT require an evaluation by a licensed educational therapist or psychologist. The Director can submit the application on the student’s behalf.

Student Support Team

A team watching out for every student.

Our Student Support Team meets twice a week to discuss academic and emotional concerns as they come up. It includes the directors of Student Experience, Teaching and Learning, Counseling, Academic Services, and Learning Support Services.

Each week, a Student Review Meeting brings together all teachers and advisors to identify students who may need academic, social, or emotional support.
