Our approach
Informed choices, for life.
Our Health & Wellness program informs, challenges, and supports students as they make ethical and personal decisions, working through complex health and moral questions along the way.
It is a spiral curriculum: students revisit topics throughout their time at SA, at age- and development-appropriate levels.
In 9th and 10th grade, every student takes a course that prepares them for high school and adulthood.
How it works
Three parts of the program.
Wellness at SA happens in the classroom, through mentoring, and on the field.
Health & Wellness course
9th & 10th
A required course that prepares students for high school and adulthood.
Senior mentors
Mentoring
Trained seniors mentor every 9th grader through their first year.
Physical Education
PE
Required in 9th and 10th grade unless a student plays a sport, with options like yoga and volleyball.
Student support
Support when students need it.
A licensed counselor and a team of directors keep an eye on every student’s academic and emotional wellbeing.
01
School counselor
A licensed counselor is on campus four days a week for individual and small group appointments, and is available to talk with parents.
02
Therapist referrals
For families seeking ongoing counseling, we keep a list of trusted therapists.
03
Student Success Team
Our directors meet twice a week to discuss academic and emotional concerns as they come up.
04
Student Review Meeting
All teachers and advisors meet to identify students who may need academic, social, or emotional support.

Physical Education
Fitness can be fun.
Our PE program is built on the idea that there are many paths to physical wellness. It promotes lifelong healthy habits, from exercise and nutrition to mindfulness.
9th and 10th graders take PE unless they play a sport, and any student can take more. Options include yoga, volleyball, strength and conditioning, and more.
